Design for Sam Houston’s Elliott T. Bowers Stadium Approved
(HUNTSVILLE, Texas, October 22, 2024) – DLR Group and Page’s design for Elliott T. Bowers Stadium is finalized. The Texas State University System of Board of Regents approved the design, and construction will begin at the conclusion of the 2024 football season. DLR Group will provide sports design consulting services and is the associate architect, while Page serves as the architect of record for the renovation.
This project will usher in a new, elevated fan experience for patrons at Bowers Stadium. A 60,000-SF replacement of the press box, which also serves as the entrance façade on the west side of the stadium, highlights the improvements. The transformative renovation includes a completely reimagined premium seating experience for fans, as well as expansive upgrades to the entrance into the stadium and the main concourse area.
Bowers Stadium was originally built in 1986 and named after Sam Houston State president, Elliott T. Bowers. The press box replacement will be the most significant update in the stadium’s nearly 40-year history. The Bearkats are entering their second year as a member of Conference USA after making the jump to the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2023.
“We are thrilled to embark on the revitalization of Elliott T. Bowers Stadium in collaboration with DLR Group,” says Page Principal and Academic Director, Justin Winchester, AIA. “This project not only aims to enhance the functionality and aesthetics of the stadium but also to elevate the overall experience for Bearkat fans and athletes. Our design will ensure that every aspect of the stadium reflects Sam Houston State University’s commitment to excellence and innovation in collegiate athletics.”
