Pritchard Building Rehabilitation Breaks Ground
(SEATTLE, September 20, 2024) – Today DLR Group celebrated the groundbreaking on the rehabilitation and expansion of the historic Pritchard Building, a modernist landmark designed by Paul Thiry on the Olmsted-designed West Capitol Campus. As the last structure added to this iconic campus in 1958, the Pritchard Building is undergoing a transformative renovation to accommodate the state House of Representatives and other legislative support offices.
The decision to breathe new life into the Pritchard Building came in 2021 and was a milestone in the preservation and adaptive reuse of the historical structure. DLR Group’s rehabilitation of the building aims to provide modern, energy-efficient office spaces while honoring the building’s rich architectural heritage. This innovative design approach retains the building’s original identity while adapting it for new purposes.
Featuring robust sustainability goals, including Net Zero readiness, an EUI of no greater than 35, and targeting LEED Gold Certification, the rehabilitation project showcases a commitment to environmental stewardship and efficiency. By incorporating energy-efficient systems and maintaining historical elements, the rehabilitation and expansion project creates a welcoming and functional space tailored for the needs of the House of Representatives.
