(Dubai, February 29, 2024) – Since 1919, The American University in Cairo, the leading English-language, American-accredited institution of higher education in the heart of Egypt’s capital, has existed as “a University committed to teaching and research of the highest caliber, offering liberal arts and professional education in a cross-cultural environment.” Home to approximately 7,000 undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate students, AUC now seeks to expand its already robust campus in New Cairo with five projects across an undeveloped 65 acres. DLR Group has been selected by AUC to bring this vision to life and transform the campus at this renowned institution.

Located at the University’s headquarters in New Cairo, DLR Group’s work on AUC’s Campus Expansion Project will consist of Student Housing and the Hub for Extended Learning and Education. Adding these new buildings will allow AUC to continue expanding while redefining the essence of higher education infrastructure.

DLR Group’s design aims to incorporate state-of-the-art and sustainable design elements while maintaining the look, feel, and integrity of the existing campus. Design for the new student housing is focused primarily on meeting all areas of student wellness and creating community through spaces such as cafes, co-working rooms, prayer rooms, music rooms, and more. Design for The Hub of Extended Education will incorporate transparent elements to encourage collaboration and interaction, while biophilic elements will contribute to feelings of rejuvenation and wellbeing. Overall, DLR Group is committed to creating a campus expansion that not only meets the functional and aesthetic needs of AUC, but also fosters an inclusive, dynamic, and innovative learning environment for its diverse student population.

DLR Group will provide programming, architecture, and interior design services.

Schematic design is currently underway. Construction is expected to begin in 2025.
