AAJ Symposium: Restorative Justice, Equity, & Renewal | June 4th, 8:45 AM – 5:00 PM
Principal and Justice+Civic Leader Rob Fisch, AICP, LEED AP, Principal and Interiors Leader Jose Jordan, RID, IIDA, and Principal and Senior Architect Todd Orr, AIA, NCARB will discuss the power of restorative justice. Participants will learn about an architect’s role in fostering reconciliation and strategies to uplift marginalized communities, while adopting practices that prioritize human dignity, community empowerment, and sustainable change.
The Future of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at AIA: A Roundtable Discussion | June 6th, 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Principal, Senior Planning Leader, and Co-Chair of AIA’s Equity and the Future of Architecture Committee Korey White, AIA, will lead a roundtable session on advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Session participants will learn how to better equip themselves with new tools and insights to design equitably and create lasting, positive impact within the architecture profession and communities served.
Mass Timber Hotels | June 6th, 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM
Principal and Design Leader Stephen Cavanaugh, FAIA, LEED AP, and Senior Associate and Architect Bobby Larson, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, will present a course covering mass timber design and new allowances under the 2021 International Building Code. Audience members will learn how mass timber facilities meet building codes, including fire protection and acoustic design for safety and comfort, discuss durability and longevity for structural integrity, understand developers’ views on mass timber’s value, and strategies for addressing safety, cost, and performance.
Stephen will also be recognized as a newly-inducted Fellow during the conference at a June 5th Investiture Ceremony. The honor recognizes Steve’s achievements in reducing the environmental impact of large-scale buildings through mass timber design. Less than 3% of licensed architects are members of the College of Fellows.
