Join our team at this year’s Building Museums Symposium, presented by Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums.

Following a devastating tornado in 2017, the Albany Museum of Arts plans to relocate to a new home in downtown Albany, Georgia. Principal Cultural+Performing Arts Design Leader, Monika Smith, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, will be presenting a session titled, “Bold Move: Imagining and Creating a New, 21st Century Version of the Albany Museum of Art,” which will explore the early phases of the museum’s adaptive reuse design process.

She will be accompanied by co-presenters, including:

  • Andrew James Wulf, PhD, Executive Director, Albany Museum of Art
  • Kate Dillard, Walter & Frances Bunzl Foundation Director of Curatorial Affairs, Albany Museum of Art
  • Chloe Hinton, Director of Development and Memberships, Albany Museum of Art
  • Shawn Ingram, Vice President, Arts Consulting Group.

Attendees will learn about the challenges and opportunities of adaptive reuse for museums, and about design strategies for creating a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible museum that allows visitors to cultivate curiosity, appreciation, understanding and passion for art for all members of the community. Additionally, attendees will learn about instituting a community-centric fundraising model that supports broader and deeper investment in giving and diversifies board of director recruitment.

Monika’s session will be on the second day of the conference, Monday, March 13, from 10:45 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
