The new Desert Canyon Middle School serves as a true community-focused facility, planned as a joint-use project involving Scottsdale School District, Scottsdale Parks and Recreation Division and Scottsdale Library.
DLR Group's design centers on a series of 150-student houses dedicated to a specific curriculum, while arranging shared spaces including a water recreation center, athletic facilities, library, dining, and arts and music spaces for community access during off hours. The design's balance between earthy materials and colors and bright, airy interiors engages the student's mind in the learning experience, grounded in a sophistication appropriate to the entire community.
